Meeting time: 10am Swithland Wood is a designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and considered one of the best remnants of native woodland in the county. Question: Do you know your Puffballs from your Parasols? Fungi expert Beverley Rhodes will walk you through Swithland wood for this interactive and informative morning stroll to discover the world of fascinating fungi! You’ll be guided through the wood in search of the different types of fungi that grow there. Learn about the biology of fungi and its place in the woodland community. Bring your camera or phone to help keep a personal record the species we find. NOTE: Only Beverley Rhodes, our walk lead is permitted to pick samples Please do not add any photos of any picked fungi on any social media platform. I’m sure you are mindful that we need to protect our existing fungal communities & don’t want to encourage unauthorised foraging. The ground is likely to be wet or frozen and there may be some muddy patches along the way, so please wear appropriate footwear. It will also be a good idea to bring warm/wind/water proof clothing.
