Memorial Wood

Bradgate Park is a special place for many people and is close to the hearts of visitors and their families.  Thanks to support from local and national Masonic charities and Leicestershire County Council, the Charity has been able to dedicate an area for quiet reflection as the Park’s Memorial Wood.Memorial Wood Logotype

Memorial Wood late spring

Where is it?

Memorial Wood is an area of woodland to the side of the accessible carriage way that crosses the Park. It offers a tranquil setting overlooking Cropston Reservoir and is reached by a natural stone path. Rich in native wildlife species, the area is bound by traditional metal deer fencing, has seating and a central sculpture of a stag, set on a natural stone plinth.

Bradgate Park’s Bronze Oak Leaves

Reflecting the ancient oaks of the historic landscape, these leaves are a perfect way to celebrate weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, or to remember someone special. They are displayed on distinctive feature pillars, within the natural setting of Memorial Wood.

Bronze leaves

The beautiful bronze leaves can be inscribed with a dedication of your choice (limited to 30 characters, excluding spaces, over two lines). They make the perfect commemorative gift to help you celebrate or remember a special person, pet or occasion.

Choose your individual message, name or dates to be displayed on the surface of a bronze oak leaf as a lasting memento within Bradgate Park.

When applying online, if you are not given the option to add your message, please email the message to: [email protected]

Each leaf, measuring 16cm long, will form a permanent part of Memorial Wood. Oak Leaves are available for £290.

Once your oak leaf has been made we will place it in Memorial Wood and then advise you as to its location.  We cannot guarantee specific preferences or locations on a monolith.  However oak leaves that are ordered together will be placed together on a monolith.

Reserve a position on a monolith:

You can also ‘reserve a position on a monolith’ in Memorial Wood so that at some point in the future you are able to place a bronze oak leaf with wording on in that position.  We reserve a position by way of branding your order number onto the location on the monolith, once this has been done, we will send out all the relevant paperwork needed that confirms that you have reserved a position.  Once you are ready, a bronze leaf will then be installed over the top of the brand on the monolith.  To reserve your position please complete the order a Bronze Oak Leaf link below and add ‘reserve a position’ in the personalise your wording box. The current cost to reserve your position (including the oak leaf) is £290. ****

****Bradgate Park reserves the right to charge a further uplift on this price if the price of the bronze oak leaf at the time of fitting, is different from the price paid at the time you reserved the position.

The Leat at Bradgate Park Walk

It’s the early 16th century. How can you get water to your new house at Bradgate, built well above the River Lin? Our walk through the park will explore the answer (which appears to flow uphill) and also some of the other ways water was used in the park. An opportunity for a ‘walk in the park’ whilst learning about one of its little-known features.
